Bob Weir Has Died
The Grateful Dead Founder and Guitarist Has Died At Age 78
How sad to get the news that Bob Weir died on Saturday. His final show was this past summer, in California , with The Dead and Company in celebration of the bands 60th anniversary. His final song with the band was “Touch Of Grey” – and it was descried by all as a “Joyous Celebration” A statement on Bob’s social media accounts read-
“There is no final curtain here, not really. Only the sense of someone setting off again,”
“He often spoke of a three-hundred-year legacy, determined to ensure the songbook would endure long after him. May that dream live on through future generations of Dead Heads. And so we send him off the way he sent so many of us on our way: with a farewell that isn’t an ending, but a blessing. A reward for a life worth livin’.”
The fanbase of the Grateful Dead is one of music’s most magical. The first “lifestyle” fanbase who were travelers, dancers, troubadours and one of rock’s true families. We are losing so many of our irreplaceable icons. The founders of sound. Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens said it best on his socials-
“Losing Bob Weir is another reminder that all of the founders of the electric rock generation are leaving us. Once they are all gone, it’s the end of the guys and girls that fought the good fight,” he wrote. “Stood for something other than the almighty dollar. Stood up against war, against racism, against greed. The Dead drummer Micky Hart lived above me briefly as a kid. We reconnected in the late ’70s and I sat onstage at MSG. There are no fans like Grateful Dead fans. I dedicate this post to not only Bob but you Deadheads out there. Bless you for loving the music.”
What a long strange trip it’s been Bob, rest peacefully……
